Members of Indignadxs/Occupy, the early 21st-century parallels to, for example, the Art Workers’ Coalition (AWC) and Guerrilla Art Action Group (GAAG), were invited to participate in the 7th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art (April 24 – July 1, 2012). Quickly realising that they had been compromised, even “trapped”, by the Biennale curators — Artur Zmijewski, Joanna Warsza and the art collective Voina — and treated as a “human zoo”, they used leftist strategies of resistance, including social media interaction and performance/actions, to critique the Biennale from within. This included the New York-based “Occupy Museums” group. Unsurprisingly, there was surveillance and monitoring of Occupy by state agencies.
