In this series, Martha Rosler photo-montaged news images of the Vietnam War from Life magazine with domestic interiors from the magazine House Beautiful — images of soldiers, corpses and the wounded are “brought home” into the glossy world of consumer-driven America. Disseminated in underground newspapers, such as Goodbye to All That!, and on flyers, they were a response to the artist’s frustration with the mainstream media’s use of images and reporting techniques in covering the war, and even some anti-war propaganda.
