Pablo Picasso’s involvement in the Spanish Pavilion at the Paris International Exhibition of 1937 was framed inside the propaganda employed to defend the achievements of the Second Republic; propaganda which included the work of artists who supported the republic and were currently embroiled in the Civil War. Guernica has since been linked to different causes, its image used to sway public opinion on political issues – mainly related to the Left due to its origins — involving political parties, organisations and activist groups.
