Down Beat

This photograph was from the shoot conducted by William P. Gottlieb in New York’s Museum of Modern Art for the music magazine Down Beat, with its edition from 26 March 1947 publishing the article "Six arrangers examine modern art". The image was in fact selected for the front page, but a decision was made to remove Guernica and replace it with a composition alluding to music.
