An artist and active member of the Artists’ Protest Committee (APC), Irving Petlin was a central organiser of the Los Angeles Artists’ Tower of Protest’ (also known as Peace Tower), in February 1966, and instrumental, with Jon Hendricks and Fraser Dougherty, in the production and dissemination of the Art Workers’ Coalition’s (AWC) poster Q. And babies? A. And babies. (1969). He was a focus for artists’ petitions to Picasso, especially in 1970, requesting the removal of Guernica from MoMA as a protest against the Vietnam War.
