Antoni Miró (Alcoi, Alicante, 1944) created the work Gernikabou specifically for its location: the viewpoint in the church square, overlooking the Mediterranean, in the Alicante town of Altea. In the artist’s own words: "The piece is a tribute to the brilliant Picasso and to the victims of the Spanish Civil War, portraying what cannot be expressed in words".

The sculpture is part of the exhibition De mar a mar (2019), a collection of 26 large-format corten steel works displayed throughout the old town and along the beach of Altea.
