“Ohio” was composed by Neil Young after seeing photographs of the killing of four student protestors by the Ohio National Guard at Kent State University during anti-Vietnam War protests in the May 15, 1970, issue of Life magazine. As a protest against the killings, the song was recorded by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young on May 21 and issued as a single in June with Stephen Still’s “Find the Cost of Freedom” on the B-side.
