People’s Flag Show
New York’s Judson Memorial Church, under pastor Rev. Howard Moody, hosted a radical arts ministry including a Dance Theatre, art shows and multi-media events, many of them with anti-war themes. The People's Flag Show, in November 1970, was a six-day exhibition on the theme of the American flag with an accompanying symposium featuring speeches by Abbie Hoffman and Kate Millet. During its final days, three of the contributing artists were arrested (Faith Ringgold, Jean Toche and Jon Hendricks) and the District Attorney closed the exhibition on charges of desecrating the American flag.
