Should Guernica go back to Spain?
«Should Guernica go back to Spain?», San Francisco Chronicle, November, 29, 1975. An article in the San Francisco Chronicle reflecting the irate reaction of the Museum of Modern Art, New York, over an article by the art historian and Pablo Picasso expert, Herschel Chipp, in which he argues for the delivery of Guernica to Spain after the death of Franco, thus fulfilling the artist’s wishes. According to William Rubin, director of the museum’s Department of Painting and Sculpture, it would conflict with Picasso's true wish, to move the painting once the Republic was reinstated.
