This group was formed out of the Art Workers’ Coalition (AWC) because the coalition’s sexual and identity assumptions did not sustain feminist and black liberation expression and representation. In 1971, Women Artists in Revolution (W.A.R.) published A Documentary HerStory of Women Artists in Revolution, which followed the photocopied and stapled format of similar collections that constituted radical archives. It waived the normal process of capitalist copyright permission by granting reprint permission to other “Women's Movement groups for distribution free or at cost”.
