Martin Luther King Jr. and Dr. Benjamin Spock at a peace demonstration
The famous paediatrician and anti-Vietnam war campaigner Dr. Benjamin Spock wrote a preface for William F. Pepper’s article “The Children of Vietnam”, which included horrific photographs of victims of US napalm bombing, published in Ramparts in January 1967. Martin Luther King Jr. was so shocked by the photos that he conjoined his non-violent civil rights campaign with his criticism of the war. This photograph of them was taken on the huge march of demonstrators on April 15, 1967, which started from Central Park and ended at the UN, and was organised by the Spring Mobilization Committee to End the War in Vietnam.
