Mask with the face of Lieutenant William L. Calley
The face of Lieutenant William L. Calley, who on March 29, 1971, was convicted for the 1968 My Lai Massacre, was reprinted on masks worn on the back of heads at anti-Vietnam protests and demonstrations in 1970 and 1971. His eyes as blank circles metaphorically represented him as unable to look at, to see, to be face-to-face with, the Other in Vietnam.
