Broadsheet, Berkeley, August 3, 2006
All Quiet on the Eastern Front
Written for and distributed during anti-war demonstrations in 2006 by artists’ and writers’ group Retort, this broadsheet begins with a photograph, taken by Tyler Hicks, of dead children wrapped in plastic sheets after being killed by Israeli bombing of Qana, Lebanon, reported in The New York Times on July 31, 2006. Copies of the broadsheet formed part of Retort’s installation Afflicted Powers at the International Biennial of Contemporary Art of Seville (BIACS, October 26, 2006 – January 15, 2007).
