William Rubin, director of the Painting and Sculpture Department at New York's Museum of Modern Art, writes to Alfonso E. Pérez Sánchez, director of the Museo Nacional del Prado, to ask for clarification over rumours of the forthcoming transfer of Guernica to the Centro de Arte Reina Sofía. Rubin highlights the fact that this would go against Pablo Picasso's wishes and the agreement made for its return to Spain. Pérez Sánchez replies by stating that if, finally, this were to happen, all ethical duties regarding the painting would be upheld.
